Ban Wobbling.#49

Please come up with a way to stop a 4th pummel from Ice Climbers and make it be considered a release so tournaments that have wobbling banned can enforce it without much hassle.

Gonna copy/paste what I wrote in the Discord about this one

also, I found a “Ban Wobbling” post on the nolt.io page–
I think the best/most natural way to do this would be to
Allow attacks on a grabbed player to finish as they always have, but FORCE grab release/buffered throw immediately afterword if they’ve reached the threshold for escaping
this would also fix wobbling in doubles, should 2v2/FFA ever get added, it wouldn’t add an arbitrary limit on how many pummels can be done on players with varying %, and it wouldn’t interrupt pummels that would otherwise connect, which is minor, yes, but important to general game flow imo
any softlock/timerscam/tourney-banned technique NEEDS a software-enforced system for preventing them. Honor rules and the design of interactive media/eSports are antithetical

Should ledge-grab limit ever be standardized, for example, systems to enforce it with HUD-integration would also be borderline mandatory as far as I can tell, especially if this gets used as a solution for competition with real prizes to earn

If an automatic code is used, it needs to allow pummels to still combo into throws; only non-pummel attacks should force grab release after they finish. This would be easy to overlook but there’s no reason to nerf characters’ non-wobbling grab followups

they have banned wobbling at tourneys before and it invalidateds IC’s just learn to deal with it and youll be fine.

@The Commander’s Toolkit What’s to downvote? The community at large has recognized wobbling to be a degenerate tactic given that there is quite literally zero defensive counterplay involved. Kidra posted a very thorough immediate buffering of grab release solution detailed above. Is Kidra’s solution not the cleanest possible software-enforced implementation?

its not overcentralizing so it does not deserve a ban.

Banned techs are a matter to be decided by players and TOs. There are plenty of other banned techs that can still be executed, so regardless of what you think of wobbling it shouldn’t be hard-coded out of the game.

What I have always wanted to see, Is not an outright “ban” on it, I think it could be a really usefull tool if you could get somebody for a good 30-50% damage before the game cuts you off? So you can basically wobble for like 5 seconds or so?

The reason being is, Ice climbers are falling in the meta like crazy, I do think wobbling somebody from zero to two hundred is lame. But it could be a good boost for IC if it was left in under some limitations. I think non-wobbling ice climbers are some of the hypest characters in the game. Id still like to see them from time to time.

You shouldn’t ban any tech. Especially tech that isn’t banned in most tournaments.

Hard disagree.
I would preffer a Balance Patch over a nerf of my best caracter (even when not wobbling).
Imo the best option is a suicide button to help my poor victims stop the agony.

Quite honestly, if some form of code does change the game, I am going to have to train around the wobble ban, and the code would have to be integrated in 20xx for me to be ready for it.

Am I expected to just learn how the wobble ban works on ranked and not have access to acctual practice?

Is it mash dependent? Do I have to start counting pumels? How many pummels do I get, at least 6 guys. Does a down tilt ftilt wobble variation work? Am I going to have to learn the new slippi half juggle half wobble tech? What about my finisher… I usually finish with fsmash because it’s easier. Do I have to learn to time upsmash instead?

Banning wobbling seems like crap to me. Anyway you cut it.

Okok I have a good proposition though, If wobbling does get banned, Nana Gets invincibility when on AI, and learns to not jump out of POPO’s up B range.

99% of people are playing this in good faith and as of right now wins/losses mean nothing anyway. which is kind of nice. whenever ranked comes around, it would probably be easier to just ban wobblers on a case-by-case basis, and you already have proof with replays etc.

Wobbling funny, should be legal.

Maybe the real solution is to allow opponents to DI out of wobbling which they can’t currently do which is why everyone except half of ICies recognizes it deserves its ban
